Construction and Performance of the Grouted Cutoff, Rocky Reach Hydroelectric Project.

Abstract

The construction of the grouted cutoff curtain at Rocky Reach Hydroelectric Power Project is described and the project data analyzed. Objectives of the analyses of the project data were threefold. The grouting data were analyzed to determine the effects of grout and soil grain sizes, grouting methods, injection pressures, grout hole pattern and spacing, and grouting sequence on the volume of grout injected. The grouting specifications and data were studied to determine whether the specifications and criteria were adequate to produce an effective cutoff economically. Finally, the piezometer observations and construction procedures were examined in order to evaluate the present performance of the curtain and predict the performance during the life of the project.
