Repeatable Creep and Recovery Data from Two Laboratories.

Abstract

Creep tests on aluminium alloy to Specification DTD 5070A were carried out in a commercial laboratory in an attempt to obtain the repeatability being achieved under nominally identical conditions in the Creep Laboratory of Structures Department, Royal Aircraft Establishment. The results indicate that best commercial practice is not adequate for high accuracy repeatable data. Special methods to ensure axiality of loading and temperature control to closer tolerances were among the changes required before agreement was obtained. (Author)
