Synthesis and Properties of Alkaromatic Chlorocarbons: Versatile Candidates for Thermostable Inert Materials.

Abstract

The effort was primarily to synthesize and characterize new perchloro-aromatic compounds and related substances. A total of 185 new compounds and synthesis techniques are described. Types of new materials synthesized include: Inert and transient chlorocarbon free radicals; Perchloropolyarylmethyl ions; Perchloroaromatic polymers with and without functional groups such as ester and amide; Perchlorinated phenals and phenalic ethers; and, Nitrogen poly- and perchloroaromatic compounds. Anomalous reactions of highly chlorinated and perchlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones with triphenylphosphine were studied. (Author)
