A Critique of Contact Surface Requirements of MIL-C-39029.

Abstract

L, N.J., Oct 71.(*electric connectors, surface properties), reviews, specifications, gold, plating, lubrication, porosity, corrosion*electrical contactsThe contact surface requirements of MIL-C-39029 are reviewed in light of recent technological advances regarding plating porosity, smoothness, lubricated surfaces, and corrosion. Specific deficiencies in requirements are discussed, and appropriate changes to the specification are proposed. Methods for evaluating the quality of the surface is proposed in order to establish low porosity, corrosion resistant and electrically stable contact surfaces. By establishing suitable limits of surface contour, porosity and permitting application of lubricants to the surface, the quantity and thereby the cost of gold can be reduced and the durability and corrosion resistance of the contacts can be improved.
