A Lightweight Electronically Scanned Antenna Investigation.
Abstract
ED ARRAYS, RADAR ANTENNAS), C BAND, ANTENNA APERTURES, ANTENNA RADIATION PATTERNS, DESIGNA C-band waveguide phased array was designed and constructed as part of an effort to investigate techniques for a lightweight azimuth scanned phased array. The array is composed of sixteen waveguide line sources, each of which has sixteen edge slots. Antenna patterns are calculated from both near field probing and ideal aperture distributions, and then compared to measured patterns. Other parameters necessary for characterizing the array are presented. Performance was generally good, the major problem area being in a high cross polarization level due to the array configuration. Suggestions for improving the performance of the array are given. (Author)
