The Years of Insurgency.

Abstract

The four stages of war - premediatated, preemptive, catalytic and escalation - will be discussed in relation to insurgency. The term 'Fourth Dimensional Warfare' will be applied to insurgency illustrating that warfare has moved from land, to land and sea, to land, sea, and air and to the fourth dimension--warfare for the control of the minds of men. Warfare will be traced from the period of Pax Romana through Pax Britannica to the present Pax Americana and Pax Atomica. In latter period insurgency will develop into the only type of conflict that might not result in Armageddon. An attempt will be made to trace the historical development of insurgency, particularly recent American Efforts to combat the threat. Included in the treatment will be the difficulties faced by a democracy in dealing with insurgency. Research utilized both primary and secondary sources with emphasis generally placed on current information. The paper intentionally terminates in 1967. (Modified author abstract)
