Error Propagation into Orbital Positions.

Abstract

The main portion of the report deals with theoretical analysis of error propagation into orbital positions with emphasis placed on explaining some of the observed phenomena pertaining to orbital data, especially when used in conjunction with non-orbital data. The appendix deals with the writing of a computer program which would perform a least-squares adjustment of combined orbital and non-orbital data, with observations being limited to ranges between stations. A non-rigorous capability of using direction cosine data was also included in this program for added versatility. This program is operational on the UNIVAC 1108 computer at the National Bureau of Standards. (Author)
