Analytical Techniques for Cyclical Equipment Exhibiting Reliability Growth,

Abstract

Presented in the report are two procedures for determining reliability growth of cyclic equipment. The first, a development stage reliability growth procedure, is used to estimate reliability growth of systems under development and requires distinctions between inherent and assignable cause failures. Application of this procedure during test phases would more rapidly increase reliability and lessen requirements for prolonged development tests. The second procedure, a continuous reliability growth model, makes use of the geometric probability distribution and relationships between cumulative number of failures and service life. This procedure enables calculation of reliability at any cycle of service life spectrums. For both reliability growth procedures, techniques to obtain confidence intervals were developed.
