A Restricted Subset Selection Approach to Ranking and Selection Problems.

Abstract

Subset selection procedures are often thought of as screening procedures which enable the experimenter to select a subset of the populations under study which contains the best one so that the selected subset can be further studied in more intensive fashion. The goal in this report is to study fixed sample size procedures which give more flexibility to the experimenter than does the usual subset selection procedure by allowing him to specify an upper bound, m, on the number of populations included in the selected subset.
