Viscosity Actuated Phase Separating (VAPS), for Oil-Water Separations.

Abstract

The objective of this program was to evaluate the feasibility of viscosity actuated phase separation for the separation of oil and water. Several Buttress Thread Devices and an Elastomer Rotor Device were designed and evaluated. Although promising results were obtained with low to medium viscosity oils, generally all devices tested were not useful for the separation of oil from low oil content oil-water systems. (Author)
