Phosphinylmethyl Derivatives.

Abstract

Diphenylphosphinylmethanol, methylphenylphosphinylmethanol, and dimethylphosphinylmethanol have been prepared by fusion reactions of sodium acetate and the corresponding P, P-disubstituted chloromethylphosphine oxide at elevated temperatures followed by acid hydrolysis. The intermediate phosphinylmethyl acetates have been isolated and characterized. Both infrared and hydrogen nmr results show that there is extensive intramolecular hydrogen bonding in these phosphinylmethanols. (Author)
