Abstract

The NAVY MEDical Information STorage And Retrieval System (NAVY MEDISTARS) was used to conduct several in-depth research studies of a 100-case sample of anonymous case history reports for neurotic patients. Four separate analyses were performed: for the neurotic sample 50 successfully treated cases were compared to 50 unsuccessfully treated cases and 50 patients seen at USNK Oakland were compared to 50 patients seen at USNH Philadelphia; for the psychotic sample 14 successfully treated cases were compared to 14 unsuccessfully treated cases and 14 patients seen at USNH Oakland were compared to 14 patients seen at USNH Philadelphia; the case history reports of the 100 neurotic patients were compared to those of the 28 psychotic patients; and neurotic and psychotic patients were compared on the drugs prescribed in their treatment and on drug abuse, including attempted suicide by drug ingestion.
