The Design and Development of a Pattern Bombing Computer for the Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manual.

Abstract

The Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manual/Air-to-Surface (JMEM/AS) contains hand calculated methods for determining the number of passes and conventional munitions required to destroy a variety of surface targets. Operational forces from all three services make wide use of the standardized methods in this manual. Although computerized versions of these methods are now available, a need still exists for the hand methods. Under the sponsorship of the JMEM/AS Steering Committee, the Department of Mathematics, USAF Academy, produced a hand computer, called the Pattern Bombing Computer, which applies to many of the weaponeering methods. The Pattern Bombing Computer and an associated instruction manual are now being printed and will be distributed to appropriate users of the JMEM/AS Manuals. (Author)
