New High Temperature Fluorocarbons: Their Preparation and Properties.

Abstract

Continued studies have been given toward the preparation of key starting materials, namely the mono and diiodoperfluorocycloalkenes. These products have been used primarily in the copper-coupling reactions which have afforded, in high yields, the linear dibox derivatives and the cyclic trimers and tetramers of perfluorocycloalkynes. The tetramer of perfluorocyclopentyne has been identified as a cyclooctatetraene derivative. Considerable effort has been devoted toward the preparation of 2-halotetrafluorocyclobutenyl ethers, specifically bis(2-chlorotetrafluorocyclobutenyl)ether. A number of derivatives have been obtained which should eventually lead to the desired compound. Reactions of 2,2'-dichloro bis(1-tetrafluorocyclobutene) or dichloro dibox with primary and secondary aromatic and aliphatic amines have proven to be quite successful. Polymeric and linearly coupled dimers have been very high yield. (Modified author abstract)
