Ductility of Hexagonal Metals with Particular Application to Titanium and Beryllium.

Abstract

The subject of the study is an analytical investigation of deformation modes in hexagonal metals. The specific topics treated are: stable Burgers vectors, dislocation interactions, and dislocation energy surfaces. The relationship of the results obtained to ductility (non-basal slip) and the formulation of a rationale for slip are discussed. Preliminary evidence is presented that efficient <c+a> slip is precluded a priori in beryllium. (Author)
