Plastic Pipe for Interior and Exterior Cold Water Distribution Systems.

Abstract

This report evaluates the suitability of unreinforced plastic piping for use in small diameter (less than or equal to 4 in.), interior and exterior potable cold water distribution systems. Special consideration was directed toward the storage, handling, fabrication and installation techniques peculiar to plastic pipe. Also included are guidelines for the design and installation of plastic piping systems. Three major resins were considered: ABS, PVC and PE. PE PIPE IS SUITABLE ONLY FOR LOW PRESSURE APPLICATIONS; PVC and ABS pipe meet the study criteria of being able to withstand a pressure of 150 lb/in.2 (Author, modified-PL)
