Target Acquisition Model for Cannon-Launched Guided Projectiles.

Abstract

A target acquisition model developed in the Research Directorate, General Thomas J. Rodman Laboratory, Rock Island Arsenal, is described that takes into account atmospheric absorption and scattering at 1.06 micrometers phenomenologically. Modifications to this algorithm to adapt it to 10.6 micrometers are indicated. The target is modeled as a diffusely reflecting hemisphere. The impact of clear air scintillation effects on target acquisition is discussed. Computer programs to implement the model are included with sample outputs. (Author)
