Liquid Crystal Display Panel.

Abstract

S), MANUFACTURING, FEASIBILITY STUDIES*LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY SYSTEMS, LIQUID CRYSTALS, METAL OXIDE SEMICONDUCTORS, FLAT PANEL DISPLAYSThe objective of this program is to demonstrate the feasibility of developing an effective x-y addressed liquid crystal display by fabricating a three-inch square flat-panel liquid crystal display incorporating all addressing and drive circuitry for the display of a alphanumeric and vector-graphical information at a resolution of 30 lines per inch. The reflective display will be built directly on a silicon substrate containing an MOS random access memory with interface drivers. To eliminate chip-to-chip interconnections inside the display, the substrate will be a mosaic of four 1.7-inch square integrated circuit chips with exceptionally low circuit density. The detailed layout of the MOS circuitry for each quadrant of the flat-panel display has been completed. (Modified author abstract)
