Optical Pumps for Lasers.

Abstract

S), PERFORMANCE(ENGINEERING), TEST EQUIPMENTLASERS, YTTRIUM ALUMINUM GARNET, NEODYMIUM LASERSThe report describes the investigation and improvement of those lamp design and operating parameters which affect laser stability and beam divergence; specifically, an improvement in the flashtube arc column spatial uniformity. A fluorescence output meter has been completed and used to measure the relative output of flashlamps ranging in bore from 1 mm to 4 mm. The text discusses noise suppression techniques useful in improving signal response of the device. The value of the 'cascade' circuit for preionizing the lamp is demonstrated by the fluorescence meter. Photographs show that the arc diameter is increased in size with preionization only in the smaller diameter lamps operating at lower energies. (Modified author abstract)
