Nonlinear Materials for IR Image Upconversion.

Abstract

Synthesis techniques for the growth of new nonlinear materials including the AIIBIVC2V chalcopyrites ZnSiAs2, ZnGeP2, CdGeAs2 and ZnSiP2, as well as univalent metal iodates, including LiO3, KIO3, and TlIO3 were investigated. Techniques used involved solution growth for both types, in addition to Bridgman and vapor transport methods for the chalcopyrites. High quality single-crystal ZnGeP2 was grown from the melt; the technique was also applied to ZnSiAs2 and CdGeAs2. Powders of the various iodates were synthesized and evaluated with respect to their 1.06 micrometers doubling efficiencies. (Modified author abstract)
