Present Status and Prospects of Development of Tuna Fishing Fleet (Sovremennoe Sostoyanie i Perspektivy Razvitiya Tuntselovnogo Flota),

Abstract

It is concluded that the most preferable organization of tuna fishing under current conditions is a 12-boat base ship with canned food production. The growth of Soviet purse-net fishing should proceed on the basis of the development of medium tonnage refrigerated seiners operating as part of an expeditionary complex at distances of 4,000 to 6,000 miles from home ports, turning their product over to a receiving and processing ship. It is more advantageous to employ superseiners for fishing at distances of 2,500 to 3,000 miles.
