Effects of Learner Representation in Film-Mediated Perceptual-Motor Learning (Rapid Mass Learning).

Abstract

The study grew out of realization that classroom work may only approximate work on the job, plus the fact that sound motion pictures contribute realism to training tasks. The hypothesis of the reported experiment is that effectiveness of a training film designed to teach a skill is increased as the film approaches absolute realism. Eight experimental versions of a film were utilized to teach Navy recruits the tying of three knots of graduated difficulty. The variables in the film, the test procedures, and the results are discussed.
