Mathematical Models of Combat Operations. Mathematical Methods for Modeling Combat Operations in Tactical Units (Podrazdelenie) with the Aid of Electronic Computers (Mathematicheskie Metody Modelirovaniya Boevykh Deistvii Takticheskikh Podrazdelenii pri Pomoshchi Elektronnykh Vychislitelnykh Mashin),

Abstract

The book discusses the basic problems connected with the application of mathematical methods to the description and modeling of combat operations. A wide range of conflict situations is discussed and each situation is evaluated quantitatively, starting with the simplest combat duels and proceeding to complex group combat with different combat formations. The theoretical discussion which relies heavily on probability theory, mathematical statistics, queueing theory and simulation techniques, is illustrated by many practical examples to which the models are applied. Potential areas of application not discussed in detail are also mentioned. (Author)
