Analyzing Situations (Analiziruia Sitwatsii),
Abstract
In the mathematical analysis of strategy known as game theory, matrix tables are drawn to represent the percentage of chance for success of various military means against different opposing means. For example, an antiaircraft rocket may be considered to have an effectiveness of 60% against low altitude bombers, of 30% against medium altitude bombers, and 80% against high altitude bombers, whereas an antiaircraft gun may have effective percentages of 40%, 90%, and 20% respectively against low, medium, and high altitude bombers: if country A chooses antiaircraft rockets, country B can then minimize its losses at 30% by selecting medium altitude bombers. Hence, game theory seeks to point out the ideal course of military action by contrasting alternative means against opposing alternative means on a percentage basis of effectiveness. (Author)
