A Return to Repetitions.

Abstract

In an earlier paper it was shown that the average return period of a randomly chosen sequence in a series of independent multinomial trials with constant cell probabilities does not depend on the latter. In the paper formulae are obtained for the variance of the return period. Also, the conditional expected numbers of further trials needed for completion of a randomly chosen sequence, given partial completion, or partial completion followed by noncompletion, are evaluated.
