Shock Tunnel Tests of Preloaded and Arched Wall Panels.

Abstract

The report presents results of both analytical and experimental studies of certain preloaded and arched structural wall panels subject to air blast loading. The work done on preloaded walls during the reporting period essentially concluded study of this type of wall. Tests on two walls were conducted principally to check the theoretical predictions of the behavior of the preload mechanism during dynamic tests, tnd also to acquire additional data. The arched wall program, begun during the reporting period, included some pioneer static tests, the purpose of which was to acquire information on the material properties needed to predict arching response. Preliminary analytical work using the MACE finite element computer program was also undertaken, and Shock Tunnel tests on both solid panels and panels with a window opening were conducted.
