Luminescent Defects in Compound Semiconductors.

Abstract

The research described herein contributes to the understanding of the electronic states, electronic transport and radiative transitions of pure and doped single crystals of compound semiconductors, particularly of II-VI luminescent semiconductors. Both homogeneous single crystals and materials with graded composition are investigated. A combination of experimental and theoretical methods are used. Among the results of these investigations are (a) an advance in the understanding of donor-acceptor pairs and of higher associates; (b) predictions and observations of phenomena unique to luminescent semiconductors with monotonically graded composition and (c) analyses of the electrical and optical properties f amorphous materials which have graded globular inhomogeneities in structure or composition.
