Geology of the San Francisco Peaks, Northern Arizona

Abstract

This report summarizes an investigation to study and map in detail the geology of the San Francisco Peaks. The investigation includes (1) Bedrock geology of the volcanic rocks and ash and (2) surficial geology, the study of the unconsolidated fluvial, glacial, periglacial and mass movement sediments derived from the San Francisco Peaks volcanics. The study of the consolidated and unconsolidated rocks provides the basis for inferences on the Quaternary and Holocene geologic events of the area as well as the environmental geology of this mountain region.
