Data Acquisition and Processing for Characterizing Wood Strength.

Abstract

Extensive mechanical testing and data analysis are required to determine strength properties of wood and their relationship to moisture, density, slope of grain, annual rings, knots, and other factors that affect strength. The report presents the Forest Products Laboratory's method of obtaining automatically load-deformation data and the computer method of processing to determine empirical relationships. The note describes the mechanical test equipment and the system for processing the data used at the Laboratory. (Author)
