Profile-Inversion Technique for the Determination of Electron Density from Wave Interaction Data,

Abstract

The wave interaction experiment is described and the development of the complex coefficient of interaction is reviewed. A numerical technique to solve the wave interaction equations for electron density is then presented. Briefly, the wave interaction equations, for both delta and finite pulse widths, are written in matrix form and then an overdetermination scheme is applied to reduce the undesirable effects of noisy data. The technique is critically tested, using both theoretical and experimental data, and is shown to be practical for routine use. (Author)
