Mechanics of a Continuous Medium,

Abstract

The book discusses the foundations of the mechanics of a continuous medium (MCM), the physical treatment of the fundamental concepts and the statistical foundation of MCM laws, MCM axioms, the kinematics and theory of internal stresses in media, physical laws for the conservation of mass, pulse, energy and entropy balance, methods for deriving closed systems of equations, basic typical boundary conditions, and the formulation of MCM boundary value problems. Closed system of equations are given for classical media (gases, liquids, elastic, nonlinearly viscose, elasto-and visco-plastic media, plasma, etc.) under the action of the electromagnetic field. Dimensionality and similarity theory are presented with a revised analysis of MCM equations, similarity and modeling criteria, with examples of solutions. (Author)
