A Concept of Domestic Involvement: Army Helicopters in Support of the Civilian Community.
Abstract
The intent is to show how the US Army might use its enormous fleet of helicopters to enhance life in the United States civilian community in forthcoming years. Drawing on recent experience with the Military Assistance to Safety and Traffic (MAST) test project, a highly successful effort to use military helicopters to transport emergency medical cases in rural areas, other humanitarian missions to which helicopters may be devoted without conflicting with civilian commercial enterprise are suggested. Funding and training are based, on an analysis of the MAST test. The use of aircraft assigned to Reserve and National Guard components is examined. (Modified author abstract)
