The Doctrine of Amphibious Operations. Phase II. The Mobile Sea Base Concept.

Abstract

The paper draws on recognized works on the development of current amphibious doctrine to establish an historical perspective of current doctrine and as a point of departure for the discussion of the Mobile Sea Base Concept. Works of recent authors, appearing in current professional military journals, are utilized to provide a framework for the discussion of the Mobile Sea Base concept. The paper goes on to discuss the Sea Base Concept as an element of a Sea Power Strategy. Sea Power Strategy is then discussed in relation to the Nixon doctrine and its implications today and for the foreseeable future. Finally, the Mobile Sea Base concept is discussed as an element of a Sea Power Strategy under the Nixon doctrine. (Modified author abstract)
