Communications Systems Test Procedures.

Abstract

Several recent studies of Naval Communications have determined that the system is not operating properly. The paper presents a test procedure which will improve the performance of the equipment that composes the communications system. The need for a test procedure, modes of failure and present test procedures are examined. It is determined that present test procedures referred to as system level tests are mislabelled and are actually subsystems level tests. A Systems Level Test, the Standard Measurement Technique (SMT) which applies inputs of known degradation to a system and quantifies the output is presented. Present problems and potential applications of SMT are discussed. (Author)
