Utilization of Military Women. (A Report of Increased Utilization of Military Women, FY-1973-1977)

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the utilization of military women and to prepare contingency plans for increasing the use of women to offset possible shortages of male recruits after the end of the draft. It focused on the critical transition period, FY 1973-1977, when male accessions may not meet requirements or the costs of attracting males of the requisite quality may be increased. The report concentrates on six main areas pertaining to the utilization of military women: History of women in the Armed Forces; potential supply of women for the Armed Forces; assignment policies; attrition rates; costs of military women versus men; and service plans for increasing use of military women.
