Warehouse Layout and Materials Handling Equipment Analysis,

Abstract

The development of an efficient operation in the receiving, storing and issuing of material is partially dependent on the effective use of warehouse space and the proper selection of materials handling equipment. Usually a manual effort of some magnitude is required to plan the positioning of storage aids. While such an approach has proven itself, it is burdensome and time consuming, and all too often is not responsive enough to management needs, especially for large warehouses or a complex of warehouses. Then too the dynamic environment due to improved storage aids and materials handling equipment can create the need for reevaluation of an existing or proposed layout. The report describes a mechanized system for use on the Burroughs B3500 computer. (Author)
