Earth Albedo Neutrons from 10 to 100 MeV.

Abstract

Neutrons produced by the interaction of primary cosmic rays with atmospheric nuclei have been measured at energies from 10 to 100 MeV and angles from 20 degrees to 80 degrees to the vertical. The data were taken on a balloon flight from Palestine, Texas, 40 degrees North geomagnetic latitude, on September 26, 1971. A telescope constructed of two large area tanks of liquid scintillator measured the incident neutron's energy and direction. Results of calibrations with neutrons of 55 and 15.3 MeV are presented.
