The Army from War to Peace, 1918 to 1921.

Abstract

The paper tries to identify ideas which can be derived from the period 1918-1921 and used in the Seventies. Information was obtained from primary source documents in the Military History Research Collection library and from historical volumes. Army activities of the past are related to the present and pertinent ideas are brought out. The following ideas were developed and require further study: Have we learned all the lessons from the Vietnam conflict. Is the Department of the Army staff organization responsive. Will the present division manning concept provide an efficient Army response in an emergency. Will recruitment policies for an all-volunteer Army provide an adequate cross-section of the nation.
