Wastewater Sampling and Testing Instrumentation.
Abstract
Liquid wastes produced at Air Force bases require monitoring of their characteristics to ensure disposal in a nonpolluting manner. A market survey of commercially available wastewater sampling and monitoring equipment has been made. Information was gathered from vendors and directly from users by a questionnaire. A total oxygen demand analyzer, a fluoride monitor, and a dissolved oxygen analyzer/controller were field tested. Continuous on-line equipment of proven reliability was located and recommended for measuring conductivity, dissolved oxygen, hydraulic loading, ORP, pH, residual chlorine, temperature, and turbidity. Less acceptable continuous, automatic, or semi-automatic devices for measurement of a large number of parameters were found, but are recommended only where manual procedures are not feasible. Various types of samplers are discussed and recommendations are given. (Modified author abstract)
