The Senate Foreign Relations Committee--Biased or Objective Foreign Policy Formulation.

Abstract

The study discusses the role of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in shaping foreign policy particularly as applied to US efforts in Vietnam circa 1968-1970. An analysis is made as to the reasons for divergence between the committee and its strong chairman, J. W. Fulbright; and the Executive branch. The paper also discusses the usefulness of and rationale for public hearings and the impact of the communications media on indirect efforts to shape public opinion and mold foreign policy. (Author)
