Racial Attitudes and Their Effect on the Retention of Enlisted Personnel in the Army

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze how racial attitudes and prejudices are developed and their effect on the retention of male enlisted personnel in the Army. The scope includes factors influencing racial attitudes and the causes of racial antagonism, a historical review of the Negro soldier in the Army, racial misconceptions existing by both blacks and whites, and a determination of the impact of racial attitudes on the retention of enlisted personnel in the Army.
