Theory of Optical Nonlinear Susceptibilities.

Abstract

A comprehensive review is given of the nonlinear optical susceptibilities of atoms, molecules and condensed matter. Second and third order nonlinear electromagnetic response functions are treated over the entire frequency range from d.c. to the x-ray region. Both classical macroscopic theories and quantum mechanical microscopic theories are reviewed and compared with experimental results. (Author)
