Effect of Shock Impingement on Heat Transfer.

Abstract

Static pressure and heat transfer rate distributions were measured in the reattachment region of free shear layers. In the first part, a cone/cavity model and the effects of gas injection were studied. Results are presented for both laminar and turbulent flows. In the second part, a flow model was investigated which is analogous with an Edney type 3 shock wave interaction, found when the bow shock of a blunt hypersonic body is intersected by an extraneous shock.
