Psychotomimetics,

Abstract

The book discusses the main problems connected with the experimental and clinical study of psychotomimetics, pharmacological preparations, which induce in healthy people disturbances in psychic activity ('model' psychoses). The psychotomimetics are classified on the basis of their chemical structure and pharmacological properties. The experimental principles (preclinical) of the study, and the subsequent clinical study of the preparations are discussed. The possibility of using various types of animals to model psychic disturbances as well as the adequacy of the physiological tests used are evaluated, and a description of several of the methods recommended is given.
