A Methodological Investigation of the Use of the Semantic Differential and Time-Lapse Photography to Measure Attitude and Behavior in a Dining Hall at Chanute AFB. (Evaluation of Occupant Interaction with Facility Environments).

Abstract

The study evaluates use of (a) the semantic differential and (b) the time-lapse camera in describing attitudes and behavior in a military dining environment. In the first part of the study a semantic differential questionnaire was used to measure respondents' attitudes toward visual sequences in old and new dining halls at Chanute AFB, Illinois. The second part applied the technique of time-lapse photography to overt behavioral analysis in a dining hall. The objective was to develop the technique for overt behavioral analysis by describing overt behavioral patterns, queuing situations, conflict and accident areas, and table preference patterns in the food acquisition and eating areas.
