Measuring Evoked Auditory Potential Thresholds in Chinchillas after Exposure to Impulsive Noise.

Abstract

Five chinchillas were prepared and tested using published procedures for measuring the averaged evoked auditory potential from the inferior colliculi. Three of these were exposed to impulses of 162 dB peak sound pressure level. A two man team was used to determine and record thresholds immediately after exposure to impulses. Preexposure thresholds were comparable to those noted by other investigators using evoked response audiometry. Impulse noise-induced threshold shift was measurable in each of the three exposed subjects. (Author)
