Does the ROTC Have a Future.

Abstract

The ROTC program has been subjected to severe criticism in the past several years. The trends, measured by campus incidents, enrollment drop, and apparent apathy as the Volunteer Armed Force comes closer to reality, suggest that ROTC may have difficulty in providing enough junior officers for the total Army need -- that is, the Reserve Force need probably will not be met unless specific action is taken to promote ROTC. Recommendations are suggested to improve the public image of ROTC and to attract students so that both active Army and Reserve Force needs can be satisfied. (Modified author abstract)
