Indonesia's New Order.

Abstract

An analysis is made of the major changes in Indonesia that resulted from the abortive coup in October 1965, including the policies and problems of the new leadership, the new role of the military and the changed direction of the country's foreign policy. An analysis is also made as to why the Communist strategy in Indonesia failed and the impact of this failure on both Peking and Moscow. Finally, the question of whether our presence in Vietnam during the 1945 coup had any effect on events in Indonesia is examined and a prognosis for the future is made. (Author)
