Reassignment Procedure for Reserve Officers a Case for Improved Effectiveness.

Abstract

A study was made of the practices and procedures currently being employed for the procurement of reserve officers, especially non-obligated officers, to fill unit vacancies, and the avenues available to an officer for locating a suitable unit assignment upon relocation to a new area, upon promotion out of unit vacancy, or upon release from the Activity Army. The effects on officer proficiency and military professionalism, on unit readiness, and on the increasing strategic role of Reserve Forces under the Nixon Administration are discussed.
