Abstract

The primary issue is whether Alaska is a key element in the security of the United States and in the pursuit of national goals. The role of Alaska during World War II was studied as well as her climate, terrain and cold weather operations in general. Today Alaska's military significance lies primarily in her location and in the US air defense system. (Modified author abstract)
